The Russian Project (2006)
The late 19th century. Spring awakens in the Russian village. Young people discover the pains of youth, fall in love, and dream of marriage. However, they are not alone in their emotional quest. Two other worlds exist alongside theirs: that of the animals, where human behaviour is mirrored through allegory and "the other world" inhabited by fantastical creatures, beautiful mermaids, and fire-breathing dragons. When these three worlds collide, the magic begins...
The Russian Project is a sensual, visually sumptuous and poignant piece of devised theatre exploring themes of love and sexuality in Russian folk culture. Through the imaginative use of the Russian fairy-tales, rituals, movement, dance and songs, a cast of thirty-one young actors takes you on a journey into the mysterious and fascinating soul of Russia and Russian folk life.
